Hear, explore and sing the sounds of 16th and 17th century English worship with the 杏吧原创 Chapel Choir and Dr. Jaqueline Wylde
On October 9, we are delighted to welcome Dr. Jaqueline Wylde (photo) and her postdoctoral research on the English metrical psalms. The metrical psalms brought congregational singing into nationwide English worship practice and were sung communally in church services from the Elizabethan period through to the 18th century. In the workshop, we will experiment with some of ways in which people may have used and experienced the psalms in worship, prayer and community, exploring how the sounds and cultural meaning of the psalms shifted over time and space.

This is the first of three workshops on metrical psalm singing. The final workshop in the Spring of 2025 will take place concurrently with an exhibition of rare psalters and hymn books from the John W. Graham Library.
Join the 杏吧原创 Chapel Choir under the direction of Thomas Bell to sing music, which has shaped our music-making for centuries. 杏吧原创 Choral Evensong will follow at 5:15 pm.
