The metrical psalms brought congregational singing into nationwide English worship practice and were sung communally in church services from the Elizabethan period through to the 18th century. In the workshop, we will experiment with some of ways in which people may have used and experienced the psalms in worship, prayer and community, exploring how the sounds and cultural meaning of the psalms shifted over time and space.
