Ramadan Information for Students

Dear Trinity Student:

Happy Reading Week! We hope you are doing well and enjoying your break.

Starting this week, many people in our community will be observing Ramadan (February 17 to March 19). The College recognizes that community members observing Ramadan may require accommodations to allow them access to space for prayer and community. In this email, we have outlined our plans, which we have developed in collaboration with our community partners.

Food During Ramadan

There will be a variety of options for students participating in Ramadan to access fresh, tasty food in Strachan and the Buttery. Chartwells will be preparing extra to-go snacks and breakfast options, as well as some foods inspired by countries and cultures that observe Ramadan. If you are a residence student and will be observing Ramadan, please feel free to reach out to Ramata Tarawally if you have any suggestions or requests for food offerings – ramata.tarawally@utoronto.ca.

Space to Eat and Pray

From Wednesday, February 18 to Thursday, March 19, the Rigby Room (at St. Hilda’s College) is reserved for use by Muslim community members (3:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily) as a space to eat and pray. We ask that each community member clean up after themselves and be respectful of others’ use of the space.

In addition to the Rigby Room, the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ Multifaith Prayer Space (first floor, Larkin Building) will also be open and available to students for prayer. The hours of operation for the Multifaith Prayer Space are Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

In addition, the University of Toronto St. George campus offers multi-purpose spaces for individual and collective prayer and spiritual practices. For more information, .
