Welcome, and welcome back, to ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ for the 2025-2026 academic year!
As we launch on another year of learning together – and as I begin my second year as Provost – I can confidently tell you that Trinity is a place where people care about each other. It is a community that builds, supports, gives back and inspires one another.
Students, whether you are in your first or final year, I encourage you to approach your university experience with curiosity and an openness to new ideas and experiences. Take advantage of the opportunities that come your way, challenge yourself to think creatively and critically, and be willing to take risks as part of your learning journey.
2025 is going to be an exciting year at the College, with a few major milestones: it’s the 100th anniversary of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ building on Hoskin Avenue; 70th of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ Chapel; 50th of the Friends of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ Library; and 20th anniversary of the Margaret MacMillan Trinity One Program. Each of these anniversaries reflect Trinity’s proud history and signal a vibrant, evolving future.
This fall, we will also be releasing Trinity’s Strategic Plan that will shape our efforts over the coming five years. Following last year’s extensive consultations across the College community, the plan will provide a cohesive vision and framework for how we will focus our collective energies to better position Trinity as a great place to learn, live and grow. And looking forward, we will open the doors to our new Lawson Centre for Sustainability – a state-of-the-art academic and residence building that will be the hub for learning and building community.
Drawing on the popular book club culture, we are launching a new community-wide initiative: Trinity Reads. It focuses on literature as a catalyst for conversation, connection and change. To honour the opening of the Lawson Centre, this year’s shortlist features books that engage with the environment in creative and compelling ways. Trinity students, faculty, staff and alumni are all invited to participate! The campaign kick-off Reading Party event will be held on Monday, September 22.
Great things are possible when we work together towards common goals. I am confident that this academic year will be no exception, and I wish you all the very best in your studies and work both at Trinity and beyond.
Yours,
Professor Nicholas Terpstra
Provost & Vice-Chancellor

At ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ Matriculation Convocation on August 25, we formally admitted our incoming first-year Arts & Science students (photos: top row, left & centre) to the College and conferred an honorary degree upon Trinity alum Fen Osler Hampson (photos: right column). Dr. Hampson also delivered an inspirational Convocation address, sharing his insights about the importance of social capital. Following the ceremony, the community returned to the College for a celebratory reception (photos: lower row, left & centre). (Photos by Horst Herget)Â >> Visit
